Australian Japanese Garden Association

Introducing the Australian Japanese Garden Association inc

The Australian Japanese Garden Association (AJGA) was established in 2025 by Australian landscape architect Ken Lamb, known for the design of the Gosford Japanese Garden. After attending the first International Japanese Garden Congress held in Tokyo in 1992, Lamb envisioned a network to support and promote Japanese gardens in Australia, exploring diverse approaches to Japanese garden design and management, which led to the establishment of the association.

Our Values

In Australia, Japanese gardens are a hub for recreation, cultural exchange and learning. However, they face challenges such as limited funding, lack of skilled maintenance and lack of access to traditional techniques such as building bamboo fences and creating streams. To address these issues, we will strengthen the network between gardens and share information.
